Dec 2005 - CIS report record number of cows

Easy to use new services that save money introduced by the Cattle Information Services have resulted in a record number of cows being managed by CIS customers. Innovation and value for money is the key to this growth. The 12% increase has been attributed not only to the need for farmers to identify the profit making cows within their herd, but the ease with which this can now be done.

CIS has strived to establish single input – multiple use of data collected. Since the launch of the CIS website (www.thecis.co.uk) there has been a continued introduction of new services within milk recording, for example the single input of a calving will not only update milk records but request a BCMS passport, add the new birth to the movement book and, if required, record a pedigree registration with the Holstein, Jersey, Ayrshire or Guernsey Societies.

“I find using the CIS website to enter data quick and easy”, explained James Tomlinson of the Bilsrow herd of Holsteins in Lancashire “This service saves me time as by inputting information just once, I know all my records will be kept up to date”

The latest enhancement on the website is the Day2Day area, which is available for all CIS users and their authorised advisors. Day2Day gives the flexibility for farmers to produce action lists and view details such as SCC information at anytime, as well as the facility to print out reports for on farm use. Electronic files, such as the .cdl format, can be downloaded free of charge to update the majority of farm and veterinary software, allowing users to maximize the use of data collected.

These valuable management tools ensure record keeping is easier and more economic, as all web based services are available to CIS customers free of charge.
